Mountain cruise on lake Gjende
The Gjende ferries are the quickest and easiest way to get to Memurubu. A mountain cruise on Gjende is a lovely way to rest your legs or just relax for a day.
Lake Gjende lies 984 meters above sea level, and stretches on for 18 km westwards in the Jotunheimen national park from Gjendesheim highway 51 to the east and in to Gjendebu on the western shore. Gjende is one of four large mountain lakes in Western Jotunheimen. Steep mountainsides plunge down into the bluish green water, and you can look up from the ferries at all the people walking over the famous Besseggen. The water gets its distinct colour from the masses of glacier drifts that the Muru river carries down to into the lake. Taking the ferry from Memurubu in to Gjendebu and back again is a nice option.
