T-marked routes in Jotunheimen

Three overnight stays: Bessheim Mountain Lodge, 967 m, Glitterheim Tourist Lodge, 1386 m, Memurubu Tourist Lodge, 1008 m.

The Cabins:

Memurubu, Glitterheim, and Bessheim are all traditional lodges in Jotunheimen.  For over 100 years, host families have welcomed mountain hikers both summer and winter. Traditions and experiences from both hosts and guests are embedded in the walls. Come and experience the atmosphere at the lodges and the beautiful nature. We do our best to welcome mountain hikers with good food, a pleasant atmosphere, and good stories.

The route:

Day 1: Arrival at Bessheim Mountain Lodge.

Day 2: Bessheim - Glitterheim. Follow the T-marked route to Glitterheim via Bessvatnet and Russdalen. Up between Vestre and Austre Hestlægerhøe. This is the highest point of the day, 1685 m. Here you come over into Veodalen and walk to Glitterheim. 21 km.

Day 3: Glitterheim - Memurubu. Follow the T-marked route from Glitterheim and back to Hestlægerhøe (highest point of the day 1685 m) and to Blåtjønnholet. From here, walk along Russvatnet 1175 m. Up the lower Russglopet until you reach Besseggenstigen. Here you are at about 1400 m. Steeply down to Memurubu.

Day 4: Memurubu – Bessheim - three alternatives:

1.     Take the Gjendebåten on the mountain lake Gjende (1000 m) from Memurubu to Gjendeosen and walk Gjendehalsen to Bessheim. The highest point is 1105 m. Boat ticket is not included in the price. 4 km to walk.

2.     Walk from Memurubu to Gjendeosen along the mountain lake Gjende. The route goes along the lake most of the way, but after 1 and 3.5 kilometers there are about 100 meters of ascent. End the trip with the T-marked trail over Gjendeshalsen to Bessheim. Gjendeshalsen is the highest point, 1105 m. 14 km.

3.     Follow the T-marked route from Memurubu to Bandet 1379 m, climb up Besseggen, and continue up to Veslefjell 1743 m. A bit after the top, follow the T-marking down to Bessheim via Bessvassosen. This was the first marked route in Norway.
